In "The Matrix and Philosophy" it explains about two main ways in which to distinguish metaphysically between real and unreal categories. The first one is source of the real and unreal, the second one is ontological status. In the dictionary source means the place where something begins, where it springs into begins and ontological is the metaphysical study of nature of being and existence. My own meaning of source is how everything began and where did it start from and ontological is how something depends on something else for its existence. I believe that Gracia and Sanford explained source . We don't know the source of all the things in the world of the matrix, but that's it's a very complex computer program made by arificially machine. That is how they defined source knowing that the matrix was made up by machine. The machine help built it.

How do we know if we're in reality or the matrix? It is something we wouldn't know. In "The Matrix and Philosophy" they have many different types of views that we could be in the matrix. One of them that interested me was from Hilary Putnam, he said to imagine that our brain have been surgically separated from our bodies and placed in a vats. That a powerful computer then sends electrical impulses into our brains giving the illusion of playing sports, sitting in a chair, and all our everyday activities. I could be believe that our brain could be in a vat and everything we go through is an illusion. We seek for the truth but we don't know the truth. It make me wonder if our brain is in a vat and a computer keeps sending electrical impulse making us see, feel, touch, and taste things.

The Matrix is a movie that describes the future. The movie is about how Neo thought he was in the real world, but it was just an illusion and that the Matrix is reality. At first I didn't understand the movie, it was confusing. After reading Allegory of the Cave I understand what the movie is about and what they are trying to say. It also had religious themes.
The Matrix and Allegory of the Cave are similar. Allegory of the Cave helped me understand the movie a bit better. It is about a group of prisoners who lived all their lives chained up in a cave and they never had seen the light or the real world. Neo went through the same thing, he was like a prisoner who never saw the real world, the whole time everything around him and the things he did was an illusion. Once Neo broke free from the cave, he saw the reality which was the Matrix. Socrates and Neo both question a lot and they seek for answers. The movie also had religious themes in which Jesus was the one to spread the word and Neo was the one to end the war in the Matrix. Neo also resurrected from the dead as Jesus arose from the dead.
Morpheus believes that Neo is the one and he helped him see reality. After watching this movie i wonder, are we in the Matrix? When we die, does that mean we got unplugged? These question go through my head now.

The Allegory of the Cave, is an allegory used by Plato. He imagines a group of people who have lived chained in a cave. I believe that I'm just coming out from Socrates cave and I'm just walking into the light. The reason I say that I'm in this stage is because I'm seeing things clearer than they were before. When I was chained in the cave everything was handed to me, I didn't have to work because my parents gave me everything I wanted. Everything was easy for me, I didn't have to worry about work or bills, cash wasn't an issue. Now that I'm walking into the light which is reality, I have to work so I could pay my bills, get food and pay my tuition for school. I didn't think that the real world was hard and tiring. I saw things differently when I was in the cave and I wasn't prepared to walk into the light. Going to school is another step into the light because I want to become something in life, so I could be ready for the challenges. Walking into the light is a long walk and little by little as I'm approaching the light I will learn and see reality.

About Me

Hi, my name is Melvin Chauca, but my close friends call me Twin. I was born and raised in Queens, New York, I'm also part Ecuadorian and proud of it. I'm a cool person once you get to know me. I like to hang out with my friends, party, listen to all type of music and play tackle football every Sunday. For me it's all about having a good time, life is short.
I work at a company called Bed Bath and Beyond for four years, as a sales associate, stockroom and cashier. I'm currently attending LaGuardia Community College, my major is liberal arts. My goal is to get my Associates Degree and right after that transfer to another college. For now I'm still undecided in what I want to major in, but I'm thinking about becoming a Correctional Officer or a Social Worker. I have made many errors in my past and I've learned that it's never to late to fix things, that is why I am dedicating myself and time to my education. Well, as you see I'm a person who has a lot of goals and with all my hard work I will achieve. Everyone can reach their goals, its all about dedication.
